My Bloody Valentine – m b v

My Bloody Valentine - m b v
Follow @hearwax So, twenty one years (and then some) later and it’s finally out. The speculation for this record raised many questions, all of which Kevin Shields recently answered in the most direct way imaginable – by actually releasing it, via mybloodyvalentine.org, where it’s still available for purchase. The fact that it was even released [...]

Rick Ross Unveils God Forgives, I Don’t Tracklisting

Rick Ross - God Forgives, I Don't
Follow @hearwax Fresh off his release of his trap banger “Hold Me Back”, Rozay has unveiled the official tracklisting from his upcoming record, God Forgives, I Don’t. Peep it below. That picture is frightening. Can’t wait for track 3.

BEST OF 2011: Beau Navire – Hours

Beau Navire - Hours
Follow @hearwax Not to say that it ever stopped being good, but it seems to me like the past few years have seen a considerable surge in the quality of screamo. A lot of the bands grouped with the “second wave” of screamo either broke up and moved on to other projects, or slowed down [...]

Coldplay’s New Album Title Eschews Logical Spelling

Follow @hearwax   I know what you’re thinking.  What the Hell is a Mylo Xyloto?  We’ll have to wait and see it seems.  Coldplay’s fifth CD comes out October 25th and the next single, “Paradise”, hits in September.

Lex Luger, Watch The Throne, and the Future of Hip Hop

Follow @hearwax While not a result of its overall musical quality, Rick Ross‘s Teflon Don record may just be the most influential rap album of the last few years. It wasn’t until Ross teamed up with young producer Lex Luger for the tracks “MC Hammer” and “B.M.F.” that rap started to head in a similar [...]

Review Roundup: Dads, Le Dead Projet, Raincoat Weather, Shuteye Unison

Follow @hearwax Dads – Brush Your Teeth ; ) The marriage between emo and math rock would have overstayed its welcome (it really was something to welcome with Cap’n Jazz) had the occasional masterwork (We Were Skeletons, Giraffes? Giraffes!, etc) not been released with surprising regularity – The other good thing is that I haven’t [...]

Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues

Perhaps the reason the album is called Helplessness Blues is the quiet downturn taken in the last half of the disc. While emotional, lulling melodies never drift too far, songs like “The Shrine/An Argument”, although quaint and memorable, seem to lack the enthusiasm seen earlier on, instead opting for a more experimental shift into playing with sound, manipulating their song into a still-majestic, but somehow stilted creation. Some people may ‘get it’ more than I do.

Review Roundup: Elux Lucis, Football, etc., I Call Fives/Rust Belt Lights, Owen Pye, and Wage Slave

Follow @hearwax Elux Lucis – Thoughts on Thoughts of Thoughts Like a lot of recent bands (Pianos Become the Teeth come to mind), one can’t really call Elux Lucis screamo, but the influence is quite obvious and essentially what makes them interesting. I will admit that even listening to Thoughts on Thoughts of Thoughts was [...]

Complete Failure – Heal No Evil

Follow @hearwax I’m not totally sure what exactly inspired it, but the wave of hardcore bands adopting a strong influence from Entombed is certainly pleasing to my ears. When Cursed was still around, I loved their gritty style of “Death ‘n Roll” influenced hardcore, and I’m happy to see that a couple years after their [...]
