3. Gumption
4. This Island is Death
5. Sounds on Paper
6. Sea of Nurnen

Primarily instrumental, and all awesome.  Such a short and concise statement can be riddled with hyperbole, but after a listen to Mountains for CloudsSome People Buy Scenery Like This, it is as much a grand statement as it is true.

All kinds of sounds are experimented with on these six tracks, reaching the airy lightness of post-rock, to the emotional depths of emo, all while maintaining an authentic sound that fans of The Appleseed Cast will eat up.  The band is predominantly instrumental, save for the vocals on “Gumption”.  The layers of guitars, along with beautiful supporting bass and drums, all interact in a surprisingly vocal and human capacity, telling more than could ever be said.

While all six tracks are pleasant and eloquent in their own right, the EP’s best moment is also its most experimental; “This Island is Death” combines the light melodies of flute with a rumbling and distorted full band onslaught.  The ending of closer “Sea of Nurnen” finishes off the same way – with a distorted passage that has a distinct emo glow.

Some People Buy Scenery Like This is a very pleasant surprise that not only stimulates on its own, but gets you excited for future releases that double in length.
