Kanye West – Yeezus
I had a much longer review written, but decided to Rick Rubin my review in the name of minimalism:
Yeezus, an album primarily influenced by a lamp, tries so hard to be stripped down and minimal that it doesn’t allow itself to breathe and feel organic. Instead of being enveloped by the music, you feel like a passenger watching from afar. Minimalism for minimalism’s sake (note the irony) – nay, art for art’s sake – should never be one’s inspiration, but it seems like that’s what Kanye West was trying to do. Yeezus is an album that is a lot easier to appreciate than it is to enjoy.
