It’s a Giraffes? Giraffes! Extravaganza – New Song Videos, Live Review, and Interview
As you are reading the rest of this post, listen to our interview with Ken and Joe from Giraffes? Giraffes! below. We talk about the Internet, moshing, and vinyl, among other things.
Where to begin? Last night was the first time Giraffes? Giraffes! have ever been to Toronto, and they played to an overwhelming audience – both in size, and desire to mosh. Rancho Relaxo isn’t the biggest venue, but to see it packed with die-hard fans was surprising – who knew that the city had such love for a non-local indie band that have just started to get noticed? This, from a city that typically abandons out-of-town headliners at hardcore shows, once the local acts have played their sets.
The duo was extremely tight, re-creating songs from their two full-lengths SUPERBASS!!!! and More Skin With Milk-Mouth via loops, bows, guitar pedals and pitchers of water (this venue was particularly hot and sweaty). Check out a video of the band playing “It’s easy-eeeee to be full of shit and look good in black”:
The band also played two brand new songs (both untitled right now) from their upcoming full-length. Hearwax was able to get footage of them both, and you can view them here:
Needless to say, despite the bizarre fixation on moshing that the crowd had, Giraffes? Giraffes! are a fantastic band that delivered an absolutely superb live show. Few bands are able to reach another level live.
I’d like to thank Ken and Joe for taking the time to do an interview with Hearwax. I recommend that everyone else meet and talk with them after they play in your area – they are two of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
