Howdy folks,
This is the first in a series of blogs I’m writing for Hearwax, where I hope to shed some light on what I’ll be doing for the site in the future and so forth. My posting has been pretty sporadic and spread out recently, but don’t fret purveyors of teh intranets!!!
Currently I’m working on a big article revolving around Virginia/Massachusettes grindcore heavyweights Agoraphobic Nosebleed that will encompass the songwriting process behind this year’s Top Ten contender Agorapocalypse, as well as information on upcoming splits, compilations, and information on members. I’ve been at this for a while, and I’ve been very fortunate that Kat, Richard Johnson, and Jay Randall have been so generous and accommodating with their overwhelming wealth of information in their responses. Tighten your bootstraps for this one, there’s a lot of information you’re not going to find anywhere else.
A little while back I was given the opportunity to send some interview questions over to Deathwish Inc. co-founder and Converge frontman Jacob Bannon, so we’re waiting on those responses as well. As many of you know, it’s a huge time for both Deathwish and Mr. Bannon, with the numerous signings and goings-on at the label (including, but not limited to, the recent addition of noise-rock legends Starkweather and releases from Lewd Acts and Irons in the pipeline) and Axe To Fall making headlines at this moment in time. Wait for this one, you won’t be disappointed.
I’ve completed reviews for the Boris/Torche split, Chapter Ahead Being Fake (excellent) and Emmure‘s Felony (not so excellent). I’m currently working on a review for Brand New‘s Daisy, and will be assessing the full Beastie Boys catalogue when the next full-length drops.
In the pipeline are reviews for Steven Soderbergh‘s two-part epic, Che, which will happen when I get enough money to rent it from the local video store, and a special series on the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, which will include film reviews and perhaps an interview or two, depending on how far I can fit my foot in the door before it dismembers it.
Keep enjoying the site. Until the next entry, Adios amigos.
- Nick
