Giraffes? Giraffes! - Pink Magick

BEST OF 2011: Giraffes? Giraffes! – Pink Magick

We haven’t been shy about our love for Giraffes? Giraffes! in the past; the duo’s previous releases (2005′s SUPERBASS!!!! and 2007′s More Skin With Milk-Mouth) are both ambitious pieces of instrumental math rock that, while not polished, were raw in their display of competent composition and technical skill. More Skin‘s highlight was the epically climactic “When the Catholic …

BEST OF 2011: Animals As Leaders – Weightless

With assistance from Periphery‘s Bulb aka Misha Mansoor, Tosin had birthed …

REVIEW ROUNDUP: Achenar, By Surprise, CellOut, Dinotrax, and Glorie

Achenar – Super Death Explosion Kittens Achenar immediately bring the experimental noise of Hella to mind; their blend of spastic drumming, noisy electronics and sparse vocal stylings is reminiscent of an early, less-refined Zach Hill-driven group. So yes, Super Death Explosion Kittens sounds exactly like the title suggests. Don’t expect any rest from its insanity – save for …

Junius’s Reports Due Out in October

While their last record seemed to take an eternity to come out, Junius are set to release their next record, Reports from the Threshold of Death, on October 25th through Prosthetic Records. Sweet. Thematically, the record continues right where The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist left off. Cool tidbit: Reports was the first album recorded at Will Benoit‘s Radar Studios, the …

Mastodon Unleash New Single, “Curl of the Burl”

As promised, Mastodon have released “Curl of the Burl”, the single from their upcoming record, The Hunter. You can click the image above to purchase or preview the track on iTunes. My quick opinion, it sounds like a sludgy Queens of the Stone Age. I dig it. The Hunter is due out September 26th. edit: …
