Victims – Lies, Lies, Lies

Along with fellow Swedes Disfear, Victims rule over the crust punk kingdom. 2008 saw kick-ass releases from both of them, but Killer, the Victims output, had a sense of urgency that Disfear lacked on Live The Storm. But just in case there was any debate, Victims have followed Killer up with Lies, Lies, Lies, a 7″ that shows just how on top of their game Victims really are.
Sure, there is only song per side – the title track on side A and “Life Goes On” on side B – but these are two d-beating numbers that could have fit in nicely on last year’s full-length. While side A has lyrics that would make any follower of religion shit their pants and contemplate everything they thought they knew out of fear (not out of lyrical brilliance – these are straightforward words that kick you in the teeth), side B has that urgency that was apparent on Killer. With a chorus like “dead inside/life goes on/dead inside/dead inside”, it is obvious that these guys don’t beat around the bush, but instead beat your face in.
While Lies, Lies, Lies may only be two songs on a piece of 7″ vinyl, it is a worthwhile two songs that is a necessity for any fan of the band or d-beat crust punk. Oh and if you haven’t, pick up Killer while you’re at it.
