Andrew WK’s Real Identity Revealed!

There has been some controversy lately over the real identity of Andrew WK.  In a confusing mix of little tidbits of information making their way to the surface, it doesn’t seem like there is an issue with what his name really is, but rather that there have been multiple people playing the role of Andrew WK.  Moreover, it has been speculated that Andrew WK is not a person at all, but a marketing idea.

For those not introduced: Andrew WK is the person/idea/artist responsible for the party rock anthems “Party Hard” and “She is Beautiful”, both contained on the under-appreciated 2001 record I Get Wet.   There have been other decent records along the way (The Wolf, Close Calls With Brick Walls, Gundam Rock), but none of them contained the straight up party anthems that his debut did.

He is also responsible for things like this:

Despite being responsible for a whole bunch of awesome, people are actually getting angry (or something) over this identity thing.  Well here is what I have to say: who cares? If you haven’t noticed, any mainstream artist that is popular isn’t real either, which is why a whole lot of mainstream music sucks – it is all marketing.  Andrew WK may just be the best idea music marketers have come up with: feel good party rock.

If you are really upset about this, I suggest having a couple beers and listening to I Get Wet.  Party hard.
